Construction Worker

Program Overview: 

This competency-based program covers several phases involved in the minor structural repair of apartments and residential homes. This course also includes hands-on training in beginning cabinetmaking, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, drywall, finish carpentry, painting, and minor repairs.

 

Course Title:  

Construction Work Essentials:  (80 hrs)

 

Brief Course Description:

Course provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in basic residential and commercial construction using sustainable and green technology. Instruction includes an orientation, workplace safety (OSHA Certification), trade mathematics, and power tools, flooring and wall construction, plumbing, electrical, drywall installation, blueprint reading, and employability skills. This class is designed as an overview course for students looking for employment with trade unions and as a construction apprentice.

Brief Course Description:

Course provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in basic residential and commercial construction using sustainable and green technology. Instruction includes an introduction, workplace safety, reviews of resource management, trade mathematics and employability skills. Emphasis is placed on the techniques, tools, and materials required for plumbing, electrical and drywall installation. It also covers the operation, maintenance, and storage of power tools.

Course provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in basic residential and commercial construction using sustainable and green technology. Emphasis is placed on the techniques, tools and materials required for finish carpentry, advanced plumbing and electrical work, roofing, and painting.
