Medical Office Assistant

Program Overview:

A modularized instructional program that prepares individuals to perform clerical duties utilizing knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or medical office procedures. Also included are writing reports such as case histories; understanding medical knowledge and procedures. 

 

Office Technician/1: Fundamentals (135 hrs)

 

Brief Course Description

First in a sequence of three courses design for Office Technician training.  Provides instruction in telephone techniques, email, mail, office tools and equipment, data verification/proofreading, records management, reference materials, travel arrangements, grammar, spelling and vocabulary, punctuation, business letter and report writing, reading, listening and speaking skills, and employability and resume preparation.

Brief Course Description:

Second in a sequence of three designed for Office Technician training.  Provides instruction in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentage, base, and rate, discounts and interest rates, measurements, tables and graphs, calculator operation, and employability and resume preparation

This competency-based course is the first in a sequence of five designed for Medical Office Administration. It provides students with project-based experiences in medical and dental health information. Instruction includes orientation and safety, medical reports, structure of medical terms, medical abbreviations, body systems and structures, major classes of drugs, and employability skills.

Brief Course Description:

This competency-based course is the second in a sequence of five designed for Medical Office Administration. Instruction includes an introduction and safety, the career of a medical office assistant, healthcare law and ethics, communications, appointment scheduling, patient reception and registration, management of healthcare information, overview of billing and coding, financial management, healthcare software, and employability skills review.
